What is a Single Tooth Implant?

A single tooth implant is the most effective way to replace a missing chomper.  These devices replace the entirety of the lost tooth and its natural root.

What is the difference between a single tooth implant and a dental bridge?

Unlike bridges which require a sacrifice of the two closest teeth to the gap of the patient’s mouth, implants do not need any assistance from adjacent teeth. A traditional fixed bridge requires the closest teeth to each side of the gap to be filed down before being crowned.

Also, implants function and look just like natural teeth. This aspect helps to prevent the bone tissue loss that often occurs when a person is missing some of their real teeth. During the installation, the implant is inserted into the patient’s jawbone then a crown is attached to the implant once it is fully fused with the surrounding bone tissue.

The connection the implant makes with the jawbone and crown ensures the bone tissue remains adequately stimulated despite the fact the person has lost a natural tooth.

Also, implants look just like natural teeth, and cleaning them is no different from cleaning real teeth. That is vastly different from dentures or bridges, which can be quite tricky to maintain.

What to expect during the installation of implants

Implants are typically a metal cylinder or screw that is placed in the patient’s jaw. After insertion, the device is given a period of about three to six months to fuse with the patient’s jawbone properly. The process is called osseointegration.

Depending on the health of the patient’s jawbone, the dentist might decide to mount a crown on the implant immediately after its installation. This instantly restores the patient’s smile while they wait for the implant to form a secure bond with the surrounding bone tissue.

Once the patient’s jawbone is completely healed, a permanent crown is attached to the prosthetic. Afterward, the patient is free to go about life as they usually would. There is no need for specialized cleaning for single-tooth implants. Merely cleaning the prosthetic just like one would clean natural teeth is enough to keep it in tip-top condition.

Benefits of single-tooth implants

Single tooth dental implants come with a wide range of benefits. Some of them include:

  • Feels and looks just like natural teeth
  • Helps to eliminate the bone tissue loss that is often associated with dental implants
  • Does not require a time-consuming maintenance cleaning routine like traditional dentures of bridges
  • A permanent solution that does not come out once it is inserted
  • Can last an entire lifetime with good oral hygiene
  • Does not require the use of odd tasting dental adhesives or cement
