5 Important Dental Treatments for Your Next Visit

Dental TreatmentsDental treatments for everyone

Whether you need preventative, basic or major dental services, regularly seeing your dentist is important. Not everyone needs in-depth dental treatments like root canals, crowns, extractions, bridges or implants. While some people do not want or require teeth whitening or braces, they may need the treatment for healthier teeth. However, there are 5 dental treatments with benefits that apply to everyone and are important for you to have during your next dental visit.

5 important dental treatments for your next visit

  1. Have a routine dental cleaning.
  2. Determine the status of your gum health.
  3. Get a full set of X-rays.
  4. Prevent or resolve the need for fillings and repairs.
  5. Have an oral cancer examination.

Why these treatments are important

Having a professional tooth cleaning is essential to having optimum oral health and keeping on top of your dental hygiene. It is easy for plaque and tartar to form on the teeth if you neglect to brush and flossing on a daily basis. Tartar can also build up below the gum line or in “blind spots” of the mouth since brushing cannot clean 100 percent of your teeth.

Having your dentist do routine cleanings twice a year, or deep cleanings if needed, is important in removing any tartar build-up, especially under the gums. Once plaque hardens and turns into tartar, brushing and flossing cannot remove it and you will need a professional dental cleaning. This is important for the health of your gums because plaque and tartar buildup is responsible for the disturbance in the balance of bacteria. You can experience gum problems such as gum disease, like gingivitis or periodontitis and receding gums without proper care.

Professional examinations

A full set of X-rays are usually part of a comprehensive oral exam. X-rays are pictures of your teeth, bones, and surrounding soft tissues that help to determine the status of your gum health. X-rays also help reveal any possible cavities, disease and what a simple oral exam may not show. This is beneficial to have on record, even if there are no issues since we can use them later on to compare any possible changes in the future. It is also good to confirm that there are no underlying or symptomless issues going on in your mouth that you may be missing.

Make sure you do not need any fillings and/or repairs. However, if you do, it is best to go ahead and take care of that during your visit. Otherwise, create a plan and schedule future appointments as needed to address/resolve any of those problems. Needing fillings and/or repairs will only continue to worsen and create more problems over time so it is best to handle these as soon as possible.

Call us today

You may not be aware of this but your dentist can regularly do oral cancer examinations. Regular oral health exams help us catch any concerns or changes as soon as possible if you do not notice them yourself. This is extremely important to receive on a regular basis since your dentist knows what to look out for.

Although going to the dentist may not sound very appealing, it is much better than the long-term negative consequences of not staying on top of your dental health. A clean bill of (dental) health is well worth the effort.
